Thor is a handsome 1-year-old German Shepherd x Collie with all the intelligence, energy and enthusiasm you would expect from this active crossbreed. He is a young dog still developing emotionally and socially, and he is looking for a home committed to giving him the time, structure and companionship he needs to thrive.
He is a friendly boy who enjoys meeting people, although he can become excitable and slightly anxious during greetings. Thor wears his emotions on his sleeve and can become vocal when frustrated, particularly when out on walks around other dogs. He is very keen to interact and play, but being on lead can sometimes make him frustrated. With guidance, patience and positive training, Thor has great potential to improve in these situations.
As a young, high-energy shepherd/collie cross, Thor will need an active home that understands the needs of intelligent working breeds. He enjoys being outdoors, exploring and engaging with his people. We know that as he got older in his previous home, he spent more time in the garden, and as a result he has missed some important exposure to positive experiences and continued training. Because of this, Thor would really benefit from ongoing reward-based training to help build his confidence, loose lead walking skills and ability to settle in different environments.
Thor does pull on the lead and will need consistent handling and regular exercise, alongside mental stimulation and continued social development. He is not a dog for someone looking for a quiet or low-maintenance companion - Thor is bright, energetic and eager to be involved in family life. Thor would suit someone that has had previous experiences with lively dogs.
Due to his excitable nature and tendency to jump up, we feel a home with older children aged 12 + would be more suitable for him going forward. Thor would potentially be able to live with another dog providing a positive introduction is held here at our branch. Thor would not be suitable to live with a cat.
