Layla is a beautiful 1-year-old miniature (toy) poodle, weighing just 4kg, with the sweetest soul and a gentle heart. She hasn’t had the easiest start in life. After struggling with ongoing leg issues resulting in amputation, Layla shows her resilience and takes every day in her stride. While the adjustment to life on three legs was challenging at first, she has been incredibly brave and is slowly learning how to navigate the world again.
Because of her early experiences, Layla has had very limited socialisation and exposure. She is currently quite under-confident when out and about and can become worried and scared in new environments. In the home, however, she truly shines. Layla is happy, playful, and content, especially when she has her toys – squeaky ones are her absolute favourite! Her foster carer describes her as a very sweet little dog who is lovely to have around.
Layla will need a patient and understanding adopter who can take things at her pace. Building her confidence will be key, particularly with going outside and experiencing the wider world. She also struggles with separation anxiety and will need someone who can be with her initially, gradually helping her feel safe and secure when left alone. This will take time, consistency, and kindness.
She is toilet trained in her foster home, though she did need some support to get there, and she can be quite fussy with her food. When out walking, Layla becomes stressed around other dogs and will bark, so careful, positive exposure will be important. She has not been cat tested. Layla would be best suited to a calm home either as the only dog or with a steady, similar-sized dog who won’t overwhelm her.
Layla will need multiple meet and greets and adopters who truly understand that she needs time to settle and feel safe. In the right home, with patience and love, this little girl has so much affection to give. Layla may be small, but her courage is huge – and she’s hoping to find a forever home where she can continue to blossom at her own pace 🐾💗
