Meet Luna, our 4 year old mastiff cross who is looking for her forever home!

We are looking for a home with owners who have large breed experience. A suitable home for Luna would include calm, experienced owners who have a securely fenced garden, as this breed can be large, strong and protective. There should be space for oversized beds, and a higher budget for food and veterinary care.

Mastiffs have earned a reputation for being gentle, and most Mastiff mixes share this laid-back vibe. The breed’s low-to-moderate energy levels are common among mixes as well. You might also notice serious drooling, a deep bark that commands attention, and a naturally watchful attitude around unfamiliar people.

Luna is a lovely affectionate dog that enjoys interacting with you – she loves a cuddle and will lean against you! She has adapted well to the kennel environment. Luna is friendly with people she knows, however being a guarding breed she needs slow introductions to new people so she can warm up. Once she knows you, she loves being spoken to, sung to, and verbal praise sends her into a soppy dog!

Luna is great to be bathed and groomed. She was underweight when she came into our care, so food is important to her. Her weight will need managing carefully in an adoptive home! When there are no distractions around, she walks great and loosely on her lead. She knows sit, knows her name and loves to play with toys.

Luna has mixed reactions to other dogs. Generally, if she is unsure, she will bark. She has met other dogs at the centre and can display behaviours of frustration. Luna will need more training around how to ignore other dogs unless invited to greet a dog.

Luna has grown in confidence since coming into our care, however being a guarding breed she can be suspicious of new things, dogs and people, often barking until she is introduced.

We are looking for a child free home for Luna, and potential adopters need to be able enough to hold her as she is a strong dog. She cannot live alongside cats. She may be able to live alongside another dog, depending on successful introductions here at our centre.
